Tamukeyama Japanese Maple (Acer palmatum var. dissectum 'Tamukeyama') has deeply lobed, lacy leaves and retains its dark purple-red leaf colour better than other Acer varieties. The graceful weeping and cascading branches of this red weeping Japanese Maple tree form a mounding dome shape, often spreading as wide as it is tall. This variety is especially vigorous in hot climates. The pretty, purple-red blooms of Tamukeyama Japanese Maple are attractive up close, but not showy. The true beauty of this cultivar is the elegant waterfall of purple-red leaves throughout the summer, transitioning to bright crimson red in the autumn. 'Tamukeyama' belongs to the Var. dissectum group of Japanese maples, which are typically much smaller, rounded and slow-growing shrubby forms. Dissectum refers to the deeply cut, feathery nature of the leaves. These characteristics give rise to the common monikers of Laceleaf Japanese Maple, Threadleaf Japanese Maple and Cutleaf Japanese Maple. Often the Var. dissectum Japanese maple group, of which 'Tamukeyama' is part of, have cascading branches. A deciduous, low maintenance variety, red laceleaf Japanese Maple, is a spectacular focal point in any garden.
