Often compared to the common 'Bloodgood' Japanese Maple, the Emperor I is a newer cultivar with brighter scarlet autumn leaves, especially noticed when the sun shines through the leaves. Another bonus of this Red Japanese Maple is that the leaves generally emerge two weeks later than other upright Japanese Maples, making it less prone to being damaged by early frosts. The pink and red spring flowers are small and pretty, but not showy at all. Throughout summer, it will enhance your landscape with beautiuful, dense, deep reddish-purple foliage.
